Delmar C. Smith, 89, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Lowpoint, IL, passed away at 4:55 am on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on May 5, 1932, in Decatur, IL, to Raymond and Mabel (Simmons) Smith. He married Lora A. Thompson on December 5, 1953 in Effingham, IL. She passed away on September 24, 2010.

Surviving are his children, Beverly (Lyle) Krumwiede and Tracy (the late Charlotte) Smith both of Metamora, and Jeffrey (Rose) Smith of Spring Bay; son-in-law, Kevin Wernsman of Germantown Hills; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ronald Smith, daughter Carole Wernsman, grandson Phillip Force, one great-granddaughter, two sisters, and three brothers.

Delmar was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked in truck maintenance for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Delmar was a member of Washburn Methodist Church, Washburn American Legion Post 661, Peoria Heights VFW Post 2602, and UAW Local 974. He loved sharing stories about his military experiences and his Caterpillar days. He enjoyed spending time with family and his grandchildren.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Linn-Mount Vernon Cemetery in Washburn with Reverend Will Meachum officiating and military rites accorded by Washburn American Legion Post 661. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Washburn American Legion Post 661, 104 East Parkside Drive, Washburn, IL 61570 or Illinois Cancer Care, 8940 North Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615.
