Dawn Laurel (Magerkurth) Daebelliehn, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Carle Health Methodist in Peoria, IL, after an extended illness.
Born on August 20, 1942, in Geneseo, IL, Dawn grew up on her family's farm in the countryside of Geneseo. She shared her childhood with her beloved siblings, Lynne (Magerkurth) Johnson (late Lee Johnson) and Fred Magerkurth (Sheila (Baird) Magerkurth). Dawn was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Edford Township.
Following her graduation from Lutheran Hospital Nursing School, Dawn began her career in healthcare, serving with compassion and dedication at Lutheran Hospital, with Dr. Louis Arp, and at Allis-Chalmers and John Deere Health. Her commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on those she cared for and worked alongside.
In 1963, Dawn married the love of her life, John Daebelliehn, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2003 - nearly all those years, living in Moline, IL.
Dawn is survived by her children, Jim Daebelliehn (Lisa Franklin-Daebelliehn) and Denise (Daebelliehn) Urycki (Paul Urycki); four grandchildren, as well as a step-grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Dawn was also a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Daebelliehn; her parents, Margaret Valesca Sophia (Schwennsen) Magerkurth and Leland John Magerkurth.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable caregivers of ACH Roanoke, 7C and 7H at Carle Health Methodist for their compassionate care and support.
Dawn will be laid to rest beside her husband at Rock Island National Cemetery during a private graveside ceremony. No public services will be held.
