David A. Coker, 87, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 11:35 pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL.
He was born on July 24, 1939, in Peoria, IL, to John and Florence (DesCarpentier) Coker. He married Mary E. Riecker on September 9, 1961. She passed away on May 1, 2019.
Surviving are his children, Cynthia (Kenneth) Scalf of Washington, IL, David B. (Georgia) Coker of Hudson, IL, and Allen (Mindy) Coker of Bayview Gardens, IL; four grandchildren; four grandchildren-in-law; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and sisters, Ruth Negley of Kansas and Mary Coker of Ontario. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, one brother, and one brother-in-law.
David was an electrician in the steel mill for Keystone Steel & Wire for 44 years. He recently shared with his children how he always loved his job and would do it all again.
When he was not working, he enjoyed reading about World War I and World War II and he was an “expert” on the Civil War. He and Mary traveled to several of the historic Civil War landmarks and battlegrounds.
David was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching as many games on TV as possible and even made it to several games and races over the years. He really took pride in coaching both his sons’ Little League teams and helping build their program in Spring Bay, IL. He also encouraged the love of fishing to his children which they enjoy to this day and has now passed this on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
But he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family. We will cherish the memories of family vacations, holiday gatherings, and ordinary daily life filled with love and laughter.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Pastor Aaron Bennett officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until service time, also on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spring Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
