Danny Ray Wakeland, 69, of Peoria, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at his home.

He was born on September 5, 1954, in Aledo, IL, to Joseph and Wilma (Kaufman) Wakeland. He was raised in New Boston, IL with his four siblings. He married the love of his life, Karen Ryan, on June 29, 1974, in Mossville, IL. Together they raised one son, Jeremy.

Surviving are his wife, Karen; son, Jeremy Wakeland; grandson, Anthony (Kelsey) Wakeland; great-granddaughters, Gentry and Miranda Wakeland who brought a new level of joy to his life; sisters, Sandra (Chuck) Pierce, Jeri (Earl) Brown, and Teri (Pete) Wakeland; brother, Ricky Wakeland; and many nieces and nephews including Lori (Vince) Huston whom he loved as his "sister." He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Donald Ryan, and brothers-in-law Mike Ryan and Rick Ryan.

Danny enjoyed spending time with his wife and son. He especially loved fishing and hunting with his son and grandson Anthony.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at New Boston Community Center, 502 Main Street, New Boston, IL 61272 with Pastor Chris Nissley officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. A Special Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 301 East Bittersweet Road, Washington, IL 61571 with Brother Scott Hauskins officiating.
