Dale Eugene Kennell

Dale Eugene Kennell, 63, formerly of Roanoke, IL passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at his sister's home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on May 2, 1953 in Peoria, IL to Delmar and Barbara (Miller) Kennell. Surviving are his mother Barbara (Fred) Williams; daughter Jamie (Johnny) Menendez; grandchildren Joshua Menendez, Mary Menendez, and Jacob Menendez; brothers Marty Kennell of southern California and Tim (Cass) Kennell of North Dakota; sisters Arleen Kennell of Jacksonville, FL, Julie (Brad) Aeschleman of Idaho, and Julene Lasswell of North Carolina; step-sister Judy (Ben) Mitchell of Illinois; step-brother Dennis Lasswell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, brother Joe Kennell, and sister Michelle Kennell.

Dale was a U.S. Navy veteran. He attended school in Pekin and also lived in Roanoke. Dale worked for the city of Lenoir, NC before he retired in 2015. He was a member of the Atlantic Beach (FL) American Legion Post No. 316. Dale enjoyed being referred to as a "Mountain Man" who resided in Wilkes County, NC for many years as he lived quietly and peacefully "off the grid." His hobbies included whittling and playing musical instruments with his favorite being the harmonica. A loving father, son, and brother, Dale also enjoyed his many nieces and nephews. He was a very humble, kind, and simple man who will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Cazenovia Mennonite Church in Cazenovia, IL with Pastor Dennis Kennell officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery in Eureka, IL.
