Dale "Papa" Campbell, 85, of Dunlap passed away July 1, 2016 at 5:30 a.m. surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Herschel and Mildred (McKee) Campbell in Olive Branch, IL. on March 20th, 1931. He moved to Peoria in the mid 1930's where he later graduated from Manual High School in 1949 and then attended Bradley University, receiving a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1953. Dale entered the Army and then made his home in the Chicago area for the next 25 years. He raised four children and worked at Abbott Laboratories for almost 20 years writing descriptions of new medicines. Dale wrote a book introducing Erythromycin and represented Abbott Laboratories in Washington, D.C. He married Marianne Ringe Lucas in Peoria in 1982. He was a member of Mensa and was known as "Doctor Dale" to many of his family and friends because of his extensive knowledge in the pharmaceutical field. His major interests included science and theatre. He was an accomplished and locally well-known actor/ singer. Dale was in many plays within the Peoria and Chicago areas. His talents and interests were varied and he was self-taught in whatever interested him. He nurtured young children, animals and plants in his work as a horticulturist at Glen Oak Park. Many of his years were dedicated as a tutor at Commonplace. He is survived by his wife, Marianne, and 4 children: Richard Campbell (Marino) of Los Angeles, CA, Chris Campbell of Palm Springs, CA, Kathy Campbell (Bob) of Woodstock, IL, and Ted (Kristina) Campbell of Kiowa, CO.; grandchildren Brittiney, Shelby and Braydon Campbell. He is further survived by daughter Di-Anne Zellmer and granddaughter, Lexi (Jeff) Stewart. He is also survived by brother Dean Campbell and sister Sue Korth. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5pm, Monday July 18, 2016 at Universalist Unitarian Church at 3000 W. Richwoods Blvd, Peoria, IL. Following services, the family will receive friends at the church to enjoy Chocolate Cake and Caviar (Papa's favorites). We would like to thank Unity Point Hospice and their staff, with a special thank you to Marcia with whom Papa shared a special bond.
