Clarence B. Sonny Mitzelfelt

Clarence B. "Sonny" Mitzelfelt, 75, of Metamora passed away at 11:40 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his home with his family and close friends by his side. He was born on May 9, 1940 in Tazewell County to Clarence A. and Milda Marie (Fuchs) Mitzelfelt. He married Mary E. Grebner on June 22, 1963 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Metamora. She survives. Also surviving are his two sons Christopher (Sherri) Mitzelfelt of Trivoli and Curtis (Linda) Mitzelfelt of Winthrope Harbor, IL; one daughter Michelle (Ra?ed) Bani-Salman of Oaklawn, IL; seven grandchildren Joshua, Jordon Christine, Josie, Andrew, and Garrett Mitzelfelt and Sanad and Layth Bani-Salman; two brothers Edward and William Mitzelfelt; and half-sister Nancy Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Miles Reed, and step-sister Dianna Hursey. He served in the U.S. Army for two years from August 18, 1959 to August 17, 1961 and then served in the reserves until August 13, 1965. He was a member of the Woodford County Farm Bureau for 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lady of Sorrows Council 3060 where he had served as Grand Knight for two years, and also a member of the Fourth Degree Spaulding Assembly 0206 since 1976. He was a trustee for Partridge Township for many years. Sonny was a collector of salt and pepper shakers, hats, matchbooks, and John Deere toys. He loved NASCAR with Carl Edwards as his favorite driver. He loved the Bears and the Cubs. He enjoyed hunting with his family, playing cards, gambling, and especially Monopoly. He was an avid bowler, bowling in the Washington and Roanoke leagues. Most importantly he was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was a farmer who taught us all to respect and take care of the land. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Metamora with Father Gregory Jozefiak officiating. Recitation of the rosary will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm with visitation to follow from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Burial will be held at St. Mary?s Cemetery, Metamora with military rites accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Spring Bay Fire and Ambulance, St. Mary?s School or Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception, 2408 West Heading Avenue, West Peoria, IL 61604.
