Cremation rites have been accorded. A time to celebrate her life will be 11 am on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. She was born in Chicago on February 28, 1951, the daughter of Edward and Nancy Gabrielson Beese. She married Robert A. Lucas in Downers Grove, IL, on July 14, 1973.
Her husband, one daughter, Nancy Lucas of Fishers, IN, one son, David (Tracy) Lucas, and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Lucas, of Washington, are survivors. Her parents and one infant brother preceded her in death.
Cheryl dedicated her professional life to teaching, first imparting knowledge and inspiration to the Washington Community High School students before moving on to Illinois Central College for 25 years.
Beyond the classroom, Cheryl was deeply involved in her local community. She was an active member of Home Community Education, where she shared her love for learning with others. Her faith played a significant role in her life, and she was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. There, she contributed to Christian education, participated in the women's circle, and served on the church council.
Cheryl's interests extended to the simple pleasures of life. She found joy and tranquility in flower gardening, nurturing beauty in her own backyard. Reading was another of her passions, and she could often be found lost in a book, expanding her knowledge, and escaping into other worlds.
