Charlotte May Gilmer

Charlotte May Gilmer, 86, of East Peoria, IL, formerly of Morton, IL passed away at 7:20 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria, IL. She was born on May 24, 1931 in Mt. Healthy, OH to Charles and Beulah May (Flora) Harris. She married James Emmett Gilmer on February 12, 1949 in Peoria, IL. He passed away in March, 1988.

Surviving are daughters Karen (Dan) Smothers of Morton and Sharon (Mark) Dixon of East Peoria; grandson Christopher (JoElyn) Smith of Bartonville; granddaughter Jennifer (James) Lam of Gilbert, AZ; step-grandson Shawn Smothers of Peoria; great-grandson Greyson Lam; sister Jeanette Brown of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother James Harris.

Charlotte was a supervisor in the banquet department at Ramada Inn and also worked a day care center with her daughter Karen. She was everybody's grandmother. She loved to swim and dance with her husband. Charlotte made many friends at Rosewood. The family would like to thank the staff of Rosewood Care Center and Hospice Vitas for their continuous love and care that they showed Charlotte.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, 530 NE Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61637. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
