Charles L. Gauwitz

Charles L. Gauwitz, 79, of Washington, IL, formerly of Lacon, IL, passed away at 12:57 pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Heritage Health-Minonk in Minonk, IL. He was born on May 29, 1941 in Lacon, IL to Arthur C. and Virginia (Vest) Gauwitz. He married Linda G. Smith on July 4, 1958 in Lacon, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Linda of Washington; children, Dawn (Barry) Meierkord of Varna, Denise (Phil) Watkins of Chillicothe, and Janice Adami of Varna; grandchildren, Erica Walin, Colton Watkins, and Monika (Ben) Janssen; great-grandchildren, Isaac Pavesich, Enzo Schick, and Aria Romanassi; brother, Roger (Marlene) Gauwitz of Lacon; and sisters, Judy Hoskins of Boulder City, NV and Mary Gauwitz of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Archie Gauwitz and Hank Gauwitz.

Charles was former President of the Teamsters Local #627 and former President of the Teamsters Joint Council #65 in Springfield. He was 1 of 47 members who served on Governor Jim Edgar's transition team.

Private family funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Varna, IL.
