Carol S. Hacker, 90, of Washington, passed away at 6:00 pm Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Apostolic Christian Home-Roanoke with family by her side. She was born on April 10, 1933, in Eureka, IL, the daughter of Carl and Susie Thrailkill. Carol had a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a love for the simple pleasures in life.
Surviving are two sons, Nick Hacker and Steve Hacker, both of Washington: three grandchildren, Nick Hacker, Susan (Larry) Gray, and Skye (Cory) Stahl, all of East Peoria. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren. One grandson, Sam, her feline companion Fluffy (who despised everyone except Carol) preceded her in death.
Educated at Eureka College, Carol received her degree in accounting, setting the foundation for a long and successful career. She spent much of her life working at Caterpillar Tractor Co., where she served as an accountant before transitioning into human resources. Carol retired after 37 years of service, leaving a legacy of professionalism, integrity, and commitment.
A passionate lover of life, Carol had many interests that brought her immense happiness. She was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs, often seen sporting their colors and cheering them on. Carol was not only a keen sports enthusiast but also a culinary aficionado. She enjoyed cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and sharing her delicious creations with family and friends.
Above all, Carol cherished the time she spent with her family. Their gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the mouthwatering aroma of Carol's cooking. She had a special bond with her cats, who were like family to her. Their purring presence added a comforting rhythm to her life.
Carol was a member of Crossroads Global Methodist Church in Washington.
She was known for her sharp wit and keen intellect. Her humor was often a source of light during challenging times, a testament to her resilient spirit. Her intelligence was evident not only in her successful career but also in her insightful conversations and thoughtful perspectives on life.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, also at Mason-White Funeral Home. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
