C. John Howarter

December 3, 1957 — July 21, 2022

C. John Howarter, 64, of Washington, IL, passed away at 6:00 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2022, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

On December 3, 1957, he was born in Canton, IL, the son of Clyde and Bernetta Dorsey Howarter.  He married Gwen C. Wagner on June 23, 2000, in Helen, GA.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Bryce Howarter and Sean Howarter, both of Washington, one grandson Jaxson and one sister Cathy Howarter of Creve Coeur, IL. His parents and one brother Jim Howarter all preceded him in death.

A U.S. Marine, John proudly served his country before being honorably discharged. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for many years. He then worked for Modern Engineering as an engineer and later was self-employed doing various jobs. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, camping, fishing, riding dirt bikes, and helping people. John was very proud of his sons and really enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandson Jaxson.

A visitation will be held, Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Grace Bible Church in Washington from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. His funeral service will follow at 11:00 am also at the church. Pastor Adam Kipp will officiate. Burial will follow his service at Glendale Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Washington State Bank C/O C.
