Bonnie (Steinhauer) Sonnemaker, a dedicated nurse, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. Bonnie was born on January 13, 1939, to Burnell and Fern (Halstead) Steinhauer of Easton, IL and attended Easton High School before graduating from Burnham City Nursing School in Champaign, IL in June 1960. Bonnie married Richard (Sonny) Harvey Sonnemaker on September 3, 1961, at United Methodist Church in Easton, IL.
After graduating nursing school, Bonnie began her career at Mason District Hospital in Havana, IL before meeting her husband, Sonny, and following his military career to California. Upon moving back to Illinois, Bonnie continued her nursing career at both Lincoln Development Center in Lincoln, Illinois and at Illinois Department of Public Health in Springfield, IL from which she retired.
After retiring, Bonnie and Sonny moved to Bella Vista AR for nearly 24 years. They were active in the Village Bible Church and surrounding community. Bonnie spent a great deal of time with multiple ministries, including Builders for Christ, Meals on Wheels, Samaritan's Purse and Love in Action.
Since 2022, Bonnie resided at Serenity Assisted Living in East Peoria before her death.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Sonnemaker, her daughters, Debra Pruden and Jodi Snedigar (Bob) and sons, Richard Sonnemaker (Sharon) and Brian Sonnemaker (Angie), as well as ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one step great grandchild, as well as her sister Betty Cobb. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.
Her family has organized a memorial service to honor Bonnie's life, which will be held at the Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, IL on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Bonnie will be buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL at a later date.
