Bettye Pruss

August 17, 1952 — June 8, 2025

Washington

Bettye R. Pruss, 72, of Pekin, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Carle Health Methodist Medical Center in Peoria surrounded by loving family and friends.

She was born on August 17, 1952, in Peoria, the daughter of Richard "Bud" and Mary Hulick Widdop. She married Wayne "Duke" Pruss on September 5, 1970. She was raised in Washington, IL and graduated from Washington Highschool, class of 1970.

Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Jenifer Pruss of Pekin, two brothers, Jay Hulick of Spring Bay, IL, and Richard Rose of Plano, TX, and one sister, Peggy Cole of Mackinaw, IL. Two brothers, Lee Rose and Larry Hulick, and one sister, Joyce Rose, preceded her in death.

As the owner and operator of Enmark Inc. and Comet Supply, Inc., both based in Washington, IL, Bettye was more than just a businesswoman; she was a pioneer in her field. Her commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of her work, and she was highly regarded by her peers and customers alike. Bettye's professional journey was further enriched by her active involvement with the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, serving as local chapter president.

Bettye's interests extended far beyond the boardroom. She had an insatiable love for travel, often hitting the two-lane roads with her beloved husband. Together, they explored new horizons and created a tapestry of memories that would last a lifetime. Her spirit of adventure was matched only by her compassion for animals, which led her to volunteer at local animal shelters. Bettye's gentle touch and warm presence brought comfort to countless furry friends in need.

Antiquing with her daughter Jenifer, was another of Bettye's joys, a hobby that allowed her to connect with history and the stories of the past. Her keen eye for unique treasures was matched by her ability to see the value in every person she met. Bettye's love for the customer service side of business was not merely about transactions; it was about the human connections she forged and the lives she touched.

Above all, Bettye was a people person. She thrived on helping others. Her wisdom, patience, and empathy made her an invaluable mentor to many. Bettye's legacy is one of generosity, as "mom" dedicated her life to lifting others up and guiding them toward their full potential.
