Betty L. Hockenbury

Betty L. Hockenbury, 85, of Peoria Heights, formerly of Metamora and Washburn, died at 4:35 am on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Cornerstone Health Care Center. She was born on October 15, 1928 in LaRose, Illinois to William and Mary Alice (Beavers) Moulton. She married Wayne Lewis Hockenbury on April 26, 1946 in Peoria. He died on November 12, 2001. Surviving are her children, Jay (Carol) Hockenbury of Metamora, Perry (Debbie) Hockenbury of Peoria, Lloyd (Freddie) Hockenbury of Washburn, Nancy (Larry) Smith of Metamora, and Jackie (Gene) Heelan of Lantana, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Betty and her husband owned Hockenbury Friendly Spot in Metamora in the 1960?s. She worked for Foster Gallagher in Peoria Heights as a manager and then as a clerk for Dixon?s Seafood in East Peoria, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 58 years where she was a past Worthy Matron, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Metamora American Legion. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Metamora at a later date. Memorials may be given to St. Jude, Peoria Affiliate.
