Bernard E. Curless

Bernard E. Curless, 91, of Metamora, IL passed away at 5:25 am on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on January 24, 1925 in Astoria, IL to Claude and Verna (Shawgo) Curless. He married Rosemary E. Kunkel on September 3, 1949 in Metamora, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his sons Frank (Alice) Curless and Brad (Sue) Curless both of Washington; grandchildren Eric Curless of North Pekin, Amber (Arthur) Kovach and Andrea (Nick) Roth both of Washington, Crista (Ron) Maples of Peoria, Neil Curless of Chicago, and Anne Curless of Washington; great-grandchildren Brianna, Brooke, and Trevor Kovach and Zachary and Colton Roth; sister Mary Genseal of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law Ann Curless of Marion, KY, Kate Curless of Metamora, and Catherine Colwell of Glasford, IL. He was preceded in death by his brothers Lester, Perry, and Leonard and sister Alice Rose. Bernard was a World War II U.S. Marine Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater with the 1st Amphibious Combat Battalion. He worked as a diesel engine repairman for Caterpillar for 35 years. He loved music, was a Cardinals fan, was a very social person and loved talking to people. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Lady of our Sorrows Council #3060 and also a member of the Metamora American Legion Post 89. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Metamora with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 3:30 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with visitation to follow from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Metamora with military rites accorded by his legion post. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Mary's Church, Metamora.
