Berdella Dorothy McGehee, 98, of Washington passed away at 8:40 am on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Unity Point Health-Proctor in Peoria, Illinois. Born in Peoria, Illinois on March 29, 1919, she married Lester R. McGehee on June 23, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Meyer of Davenport, IA and Diane (William) Hiatt of Washington, IL; four grandchildren, Sara Hiatt McDaniel (husband Drew), of Durham, NC; Jessica Hiatt Schertz (husband Chris), of Bondurant, IA; Stephanie Meyer of Minneapolis, MN and Jason Meyer of Cedar Rapids, IA, and great-grandchildren, Calvin and Samantha Schertz. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her mother, Margaret Garretts Voight, and her sister, Freda Goldsmith. She worked at Hiram Walker's Distillery in Peoria and later at the Illinois Central College Bookstore, retiring in 1983. She truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She liked flower gardening, traveling, and spending winters in Florida. Berdella had been a resident of Supported Living of Washington since 2007. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses at Proctor Hospital and Unity Point Hospice for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, followed by services at 11:00 am on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor John Rothfusz officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Berdella's name may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to The Salvation Army.
