Benjamin "Cliff" Smith

Benjamin Clifford Smith, 80, of Washington, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Mason White Funeral Home in Washington, with Reverend Joseph Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, immediately following the funeral service.

Cliff was born on August 31, 1942, in Peoria, the son of Benjamin H. and Easter (Reeves) Smith. They preceded him in death. He married Sally Harms on May 5, 1968, in Saybrook. She survives.

He is also survived by his children, Brian (Joe Johnson) Smith of Chicago, Jill (Bill) Cranford of Ottawa and Timothy (Misty) Smith of Durango, CO; sister, Cathie (Roy) Maguire of Edelstein; and granddaughter, Annabelle Gayle Smith.

Cliff was a postal carrier for 42 years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a member of Crossroads Church in Washington, where he was the Bell Choir Director. He was active with the W. D. Boyce Council, Boy Scouts of America for many years. He also volunteered for the Band Boosters and Choral Boosters at Washington High School. He was a member of the Washington American Legion Post 100.

Memorial contributions may be made in Cliff's memory to W. D. Boyce Council, Boy Scouts of America or to the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House in East St. Louis or to the charity of the donor's choice.
