Ben G. Egli

Ben G. Egli, 87, of Snyder Village in Metamora, IL passed away at 6:10 pm on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home.

Ben was born on October 25, 1929 in Lowpoint, IL to Reuben A. and Matilda (Eigsti) Egli. After graduating from LaRose High School he served in the Army during the Korean conflict as a medic. He was first a member of the Linn Mennonite Church and then for all his married life he was a member of the Metamora Mennonite Church for 61 years.

Ben married Shirley A. Hahn on November 10, 1955 in Washburn. She survives. Also surviving are son Stanley (Yolanda) Egli of Metamora; daughters Mary (Craig) Oakman of Washington and Donna (Edward) Schmillen of Rutland, IL; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and sister Jeanette (Marvin) Viets of Minonk. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and one grandchild.

Ben was an avid golfer getting four holes in one. He liked motorcycles, bowling, and trapping. He liked riding around Metamora in his golf cart and enjoyed his friends at McDonald's as well as the Thursday golf league from his church.

He stayed with his father on the small farm raising bucket calves and then feeding them out as well as feeder pigs. They also did custom shelling and hay baling when he returned from Korea. Ben worked and retired from Boley Tool.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 9:30 am at the Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery with a memorial service following at 10:30 am at Metamora Mennonite Church with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Snack-Pac at the Metamora Mennonite Church or Open Hands Food Pantry in Metamora. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
