Barbara Christine (Polonus) Smith

Barbara C. Smith, 84, of Brimfield, IL, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 27, 2023.

She was born on August 16, 1938, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Fosco) Polonus. She married David L. Smith on September 19, 1959, at St. Marks Catholic Church in Peoria.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years; two sons, David "Scott" (Julie) Smith of Glen Carbon, IL, and Mark (Angie) Smith of Peoria, IL; one daughter, Anne (Stuart) Smith-Ingersoll of Elmwood, IL. Six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews also survive her. She was preceded in death by four brothers, her parents, one brother-in-law, and five beautiful angel babies.

She was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady. Her children appreciated her being a devoted stay-at-home mom until they were school-aged, and then, she worked as a secretary for over 20 years at Brimfield High School. Barb was a devout Catholic and active in the Central Illinois Right to Life. The two most important things in her life were God and family. She was an ardent supporter of her children's and grandchildren's endeavors. Barb was silly over her puppy dogs and loved having giggling grandchildren around her and making large, delicious meals for her loved ones. She had a beautiful, complete life and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brimfield. Fr. John Verrier will celebrate.  Visitation will be from 12 noon until her time of mass also at the church. A luncheon will follow her mass. Interment will take place at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria, IL, at a later date.
