WASHINGTON?Barbara Jo Nichting, 77, of Washington, passed away peacefully at her home at 9:45 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2014. Barbara was born on December 17, 1936 in Peoria to Everett and Wilma (Hawkins) Hedgcock. Her mother died when Barbara was an infant and her Dad and stepmother, Dorothea Hedgcock, raised her. She married William Nichting at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Washington on February 2, 1957. Bill survives. Also surviving is her sister, Irma (Paul) Dumser of Lincoln, IL., and many loving nieces and nephews. Her parents, her stepmother and one brother, Richard Leon Hedgcock, also preceded Barbara in death. Barbara had worked in advertising for Becht & Blomeyer in Peoria and had also worked for a lumber wholesale business. She was an avid golfer who had played in leagues at Pine Lakes and Quail Meadows. Barbara also loved hunting, fishing and most any outdoor activities. Barbara was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church where a mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 with Father Steve Willard officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 at Mason-White Funeral Home with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 on Friday. Additional visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 at the church prior to services. Memorials for Barbara may be directed to either Washington Fire & Rescue, Women?s Club of St. Pat?s or TAPS.
