Barbara James

WASHINGTON-Barbara James, 91, of Washington, IL, sister of the late Betty Stringfellow of Washington, IL passed away at 12:30am, Monday, January 22, 2018 at Unity Point Health Methodist.

She was born on May 3, 1926, in Ansonia, Connecticut daughter of the late Warren Allen and Kate Louise Buck James.

Surviving are five nephews and one niece; David Hill, Jim Hill, Mark Hill, Steve Stringfellow, Ray Stringfellow, and Grace Stringfellow as well as numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth James Stringfellow and brother in-law Arthur Charles Stringfellow, as well as sister Nancy Marian Hill and brother in-law John Whitredge Hill.

She graduated from Ansonia High School in 1944. She attended Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing in Norwalk, CT. Barb worked in the Ansonia, CT area while caring for her family. She later moved to Boston, MA where she completed her Bachelor's degree in Nursing at Boston University. She served as a public health nurse for over 30 years for the City of Boston, where she was beloved by her patients young and old, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed the beauty of New England, spending her free time with family and friends at Lake Winnepausakee and at the Rockport, MA sea shore. She loved animals, especially cats, and adopted many over her lifetime. She enjoyed international travel, including trips to South America and Japan.

She was a resident of Riverview Senior Living Center from 2011-2013, and most recently was a resident of Rosewood Care Center-East Peoria from 2013 until the time of her passing.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00am Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Mason-White Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at a later date for interment. She was a strong advocate of the SPCA and donation in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
