Ava L. Austin, 94, of Washington, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Pekin Manor
Born on December 17, 1930, in Lawrence County, Tennessee, to Thomas Monroe and Bertha Bates McGuire. She married Byrl F. Austin on July 30, 1949, in Iuka, Mississippi, and they shared many years together until his passing. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Roger Dean Austin, and her siblings Opal Hart, Geneva Pierce, Dorothy Cheatwood, Ray McGuire, Bill McGuire, Patricia West, and Larry McGuire.
Ava is survived by two sons, Gary Austin and Douglas (Sharon) Austin. Her grandchildren are Samantha Austin, Jeremy Gould, and Jamie Innis; her great-grandchildren are Quinn Carroll, Theo Carroll, and Arlow Innis. One sister, Linda Bunn, and one brother, Paul McGuire.
Ava spent her life in Washington and was a dedicated community member. She worked at Morton Pottery, then retired from the City of Washington as a police dispatcher. An avid bowler on several championship teams, she was also a wonderful mother and a respected presence. Her warmth, kindness, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
At her request, cremation rites were accorded. A private graveside service is scheduled at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.
