Arthur J. Kiesewetter, 89, of rural Metamora, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 10:40 pm.
Art was born on October 30, 1934 in rural Metamora, IL to Frank and Catherine (Adams) Kiesewetter. He married Dolores "Dee" Zant on December 30, 1961 at St. Boniface Church in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Dee, of 62 years; eight children, Debbie (Steve) Kerker of East Peoria, IL, Dan (Karla) Kiesewetter of Metamora, IL, Ron (Leigh) Kiesewetter of Normal, IL, Greg (Julie) Kiesewetter of Metamora, IL, Amy (Dave) Geier of Metamora, IL, Andy (Myra) Kiesewetter of Mt. Washington, KY, Steve (Stephanie) Kiesewetter of Metamora, IL, and Joann (Mark) Krumwiede of Metamora, IL; twenty-two grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Markiewicz of Springfield, PA, Luella Shawhan of Madison, WI, and Marge Mason of Metamora, IL; one sister-in-law, Phyllis (Herb) Kiesewetter of East Peoria; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kevin Kiesewetter (Kim Hahn), son-in-law, Randy McCombs, brothers, Harold Kiesewetter, Franklin Kiesewetter, and Herb Kiesewetter; and sisters, Alvina Jenn and Laurina Gangloff.
Art was a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed at Fort Bliss. He was a lifelong farmer in rural Metamora. He also worked in construction as a heavy equipment truck driver for over 35 years with Teamsters Local 627. He was employed by C.A. Powley and then later at N.E. Finch & Company.
He was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora, serving on the cemetery board for many years. He was an honorary member of Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree. Art served for Worth Township for 44 years and many of those years as supervisor. Art was an honorary chapter farmer for the Metamora FFA which he proudly supported.
Art enjoyed bowling, gardening, sports, and attending his childrens' and grandchildrens' events. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and Bradley Braves basketball fan. Art loved to play cards with his family, teaching his children and grandchildren how to play. He was hard-working, instilling strong work ethics into his children. Above all, Art loved farming and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed!
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 23, 2024 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Eric Bolek officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, February 22, 2024 with visitation following from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home, Germantown Hills Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #1115. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Carle Health Hospice, 221 NE Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61636, St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, 424 Lourdes Church Road, Metamora, IL 61548, Snyder Village Home Care, 215 West Mt.
