WASHINGTON?Arthur E. "Andy" Andrews, 89, of Washington, passed away at 1:54 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the emergency room at UnityPoint Proctor Medical Center in Peoria. Andy was born on August 16, 1925 in Peoria to William Arthur and Maria J. (Eiben) Andrews. He married Etheleen E. Brown in Pekin on August 12, 1945. Etheleen survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Sharon (Gene) Opsahl of Rockford; five loving grandchildren, Julia, Russell, Jenny, Sherrie and Corrine and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Andy had worked as a railroad engineer for almost 40 years. First starting out on the Rock Island Railroad and later retiring from the Chessie System. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. After high school, Andy entered the Marine Corps and was trained as a sniper for World War II. Andy loved to farm, enjoying the time spent on a tractor and raising small animals. He was always quick to help others when he had the opportunity, especially those less fortunate. A service to remember Andy will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor William McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington. Visitation for Andy will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
