Albert "Al" S. Tyre, 81, of West Peoria, IL passed away peacefully at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home at 2:14 pm on January 18th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Albert was born on March 27th, 1939 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL to John and Annetta (Smith) Tyre.
He married Kathryn (Driggs) on June 29th, 1963 in Peoria, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Kathy; their sons Michael (Christine Ball), David, James (Shannon O'Brien), and Daniel (Jennifer Zuccaro-Zipp); his grandchildren Krista (Fischer), Luke (Julie Thomas), Jared (Alicia Gonter), Sydney, Caleb, RJ, Holden, Brody, Catalina, and Jack; and his great-grandchildren Fletcher, Sawyer, Rowan, and Jamison.
After graduating from Manual High School in the Class of 1957, Al began his career as a pattern maker for Caterpillar, Inc. where he became a Supervisor in the Pattern Shop of the Foundry for 40 years. After retirement in 1998, he worked as an Independent Contractor for the German company, SLR Foundry, and traveled to many European countries to facilitate quality control of castings that were supplied to Caterpillar worldwide.
He was an active member of both bowling and golf leagues throughout the years. He volunteered as a baseball coach for his four sons throughout their youth baseball years. Caterpillar vacations were frequently spent traveling to Minnesota for family fishing trips. He enjoyed deer hunting, golf and stayed active with Tai Chi in his later years and was the "Chief Turkey Carver" at all holiday meals! Al and Kathy most enjoyed attending all of their grandchildren's extra-curricular activities throughout the state. He spent many hours teaching his grandkids his many talents with tools and helped build models, etc. with them at every request. Of all of his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and grandchildren.
A private family Celebration of Life ceremony will take place in the future. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/give and to the OSF Richard L.
