Albert "Peter" Gavin, 88, of Metamora passed away at 1:08am Friday Dec. 21, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on April 7, 1924 in Lake Geneva, WI the son of Paul and Blanche Robinson Gavin. He married Leona Brandt in Evanston, IL on July 20, 1946. She passed away on March 6, 2010 in Metamora. Surviving are his children Michael (Gloria) Gavin of Argentona Spain, Nancy (Dan) Rybaski of Lyndon Station WI, Joan (Dave) Brown of Paris IL, Marcia (Jim) Kaplan of Lisle IL, Dan (Lisa) Gavin of Brimfield, IL, two son-in-laws Dan Faust of Shelton, WA. and Waldo Goff of Crawford, NE, 20 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, as well as one sister Sister Florence Gavin of Sinsinawa, WI, also survive Peter. His parents, two daughters, Carol Goff and Mary Faust, three brothers, Tom, Bob, and Paul as well as one sister Helena preceded him in death. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, known for his peaceful patience and friendly smile. He loved gardening, boating, woodworking, walking, playing bridge and online scrabble with his children. After spending many years in Downers Grove, IL, raising his family, Peter was blessed to spend 18 of retirement years in Arkansas on the beautiful Bull Shoals Lake with his wife. Many gatherings and vacations were enjoyed there by all of his family. His family and friends will dearly miss him. A US Navy Veteran he worked for Argonne National Lab as a Chemical Engineer for over 25 years retiring in 1984. His prized accomplishment was the invention of the sodium immersible high temperature microphone. Peter was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Metamora and was a resident at Snyder Village Assisted Living for three years where he participated in many activities and loved to walk all around Snyder Village community greeting all he met with a smile. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the caring staff at Snyder Village Assisted Living and Methodist Medical Center 7th floor for their loving care during his recent illness. The prayers and support of all family and friends are also greatly appreciated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am on Saturday Dec 29, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Metamora with Fr. Don Roszkowski celebrating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 and continue until his time of service also at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to Assisted Living at Snyder Village.
