A.B. Weddle

A.B. Weddle, 90, of Metamora passed away at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Snyder Village Health Care Center in Metamora, Ill. A.B. was born on Oct. 21, 1923, to Albert and Myrtle (Gaines) Weddle in Cisco, Ill. He married Margaret Brown on Dec. 6, 1941. She survives. They were married 72 years. He also is survived by two sons, Jack (Marsha) Weddle of Metamora and J. Daniel (Kathleen) Weddle of Manhattan, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Emily Weddle of Manhattan; one grandson, Scott (Kimberly) Weddle of Stevens Point, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Katherine, Madeline, John and Faith Weddle, all of Stevens Point; one brother-in-law, John Brown of Herscher, Ill.; one nephew; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Weddle; sister, Irene McKinley; and niece, Jill. A.B. attended Cisco Grade School and High School until his senior year, when he graduated from Monticello High School in 1941. He started in the grocery business with his father at Weddle's IGA in Cisco. A.B. served on the Monticello High School Board of Education, was the fire chief in Cisco and was a member of the Cisco United Methodist Church. In 1963, the family moved to Havana, Ill., to open Weddle's IGA. A.B. was the owner and operator for 20 years. While in Havana, A.B. served as president of the Rotary Club and was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award and was also president of Lakewood Golf Association. He served on the boards of Mason District Hospital and Havana Savings and Loan. A.B. retired from the grocery business in 1983, and he and Margaret moved to North Fort Myers, Fla., where they lived for 23 years. A.B. was president of Lochmoor Civic Association and Golf Club, was a volunteer at Cape Coral Hospital and was a member of Grace Methodist Church. He was also a Realtor. A.B. liked to fish, hunt, and play golf. He made three holes-in-one! He was a 50-year Mason. He and Margaret have lived in Metamora the past several years, where they attended the Metamora Christian Union Church. They have enjoyed many lifelong friends in all the communities where they have lived. The family would like to thank Dr. Whitford and the staff in the Alzheimer's Unit at Snyder Village for their care and kindness. Cremation has been accorded and private services will be at a later date, with Pastor Gary Salm officiating.
