Willis D. Meeks

Willis D. Meeks, 81, of Washington passed away at 1:00pm, Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Apostolic Christian Home-Eureka. Willis' persistent longing to go home has been peacefully granted with his family by his side.

He was born on November 22, 1936 in Norris, IL son of Leslie and Erma Feaster Meeks Sr.. He married Judith A. Voice on October 3, 1958, in Washington, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are six children Timothy (Jean) Meeks, Daniel (Lori) Meeks, Barbara (James) Bell, Shawn (Gina) Meeks, Darrin (Amanda) Meeks and Mark Meeks. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren along with one sister Connie Widdell. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.

Willis worked at and eventually became owner of Meeks Standard Service Station in Washington in 1964. During the later 1960's and early 1970's, Willis was a member of the Washington Rescue Squad and an attendant with White Funeral and a member of the Board of Education for Pleasant View School District #622.

After retiring from Caterpillar Tractor Co., in 1994, he and Judy enjoyed time at their mountain cabin in Colorado. Willis was known to have the ability to "fix" anything that was broken; if he couldn't, duct tape could! He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed family time, gardening, as well as having smile competitions with his grandkids and great grand kids. Before Willis' illness, he attended Crossroads United Methodist church in Washington.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 4pm until 6pm with a memorial service to follow at 6:00pm all at Mason-White Funeral Home. Pastor Bob DeBolt will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to St. Jude Children's Research hospital or to Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.
