Melvin L. Bachman

Melvin L. Bachman, 99, of Metamora, IL passed away at 6:45 pm on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on May 14, 1917 in Cazenovia, IL to Jacob and Louisa Bachman. He married Eulah Lasater on September 8, 1940 in Cazenvoia, IL and they were married for 64 years before her passing on September 25, 2004. Surviving are his daughter-in-law Kathy (Strieder) Bachman of Metamora; two grandchildren, Shane (Jaclyn) Bachman of Chandler, AZ and Ronalee (Joshua) Tedesco of Arlington, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Aidan and Caleb Bachman and Isabella and Biaggio Tedesco. He was preceded in death by two sons, Rodney and Roger Bachman, and two brothers. Melvin served in the Army Air Corp from June, 1942 to September, 1945 receiving the Air Medal during active duty in World War II. He was a member of the Metamora Mennonite Church, the Lions Club, and the American Legion for over 50 years. Melvin was Road Commissioner for Cazenovia Township. After moving to Snyder Village in 1990, he became an active volunteer in the village, offering to help wherever he could. Mel served others his whole life and always carried a spirit of service and giving in all of his endeavors. He loved sports, playing golf and cards, and cheering on the Metamora Redbirds. Most of all, Mel loved people. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Metamora Mennonite Church with Reverend Randy Miller and Dr. Jon Byler officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel, Metamora and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Hickory Point Cemetery, Metamora with military rites accorded. A luncheon will immediately follow at Snyder Village.
