James A. McDowell, age 78, of Washington, Illinois, formerly of Metamora, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:30 am at his residence. He was born on March 7, 1936 in Canton, Illinois to Edward and Grace (Leonard) McDowell. He married Pebbyl Henderson on January 5, 1962 in Poplar Bluff, MO. She survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Michelle Waldschmidt of Washington, IL, one son, Scott McDowell of East Peoria, IL and one brother, Sandy (Alberta) McDowell of Brimfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. James was a heavy equipment operator for 60 years retiring in 1997. He was a member of Local #649 Operating Engineers Union, Peoria. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War. James liked to work on antique cars and trucks and was a NASCAR fan. He was of the Christian faith. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery, Metamora with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
