WASHINGTON?Imelda H. Smith, 80, of Washington, passed away at 7:35 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at Morton Terrace Health Care in Morton. Imelda was born on February 14, 1933 in Magnolia, Illinois to Alden and Margaret (Bonin) Dunn. She married Wallace V. Smith in Magnolia on March 16, 1952. They have celebrated 61 years of marriage, Wallace survives. Also surviving are their three sons, Daniel (Sherry) Smith of Varna, Randall (Michele) Smith of Peoria and Steven (Cindy) Smith of East Peoria; one sister, Eleanor Kapraun of Florida; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Carrie Bickerman. Imelda had been hairdresser for over 30 years working in salon?s and out of her home in the Varna and East Peoria communities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria. Imelda had been extremely active in N.A.M.I. (National Alliance for Mental Illness) for the past 30 years. She had served as the Illinois State President from 1990-1992 and was the local chapter president in 1998. Funeral services for Imelda will be on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Vonna Lou Larson officiating at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia. Visitation will be two hours prior to services on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to either National Alliance for Mental Illness or Fresenius Medical Services.
