FRED EKVALL Freddie Clifford (Fred) Ekvall, 75, of Metamora, passed away the morning of Sat, Aug 17th at the OSF Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born May 23, 1938 in Peoria to Donald & Victoria Ekvall. He married Sue Karen Turman in Peoria February 17, 1962. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his beloved dog Sparky; 4 daughters (the "Harem"); Vicki (Tad Doubet) Barber of Peoria, Jami (Kent) Kaisershot of Morton, Dawn (Tom) Page of Washington, & Denise Ekvall of Gilbert, AZ, 2 brothers; Donald Ekvall of Creve Coeur & Tom (Deb) Ekvall of Glasford, He was blessed with 11 grandchildren; Chris, Kyle, Amanda, Susie, Tara, Joe, Hannah, Lexi, Tori, Mateo, & Adrian, also 2 great-grandchildren; Brayden & Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Joseph Vance. Fred graduated from East Peoria High School in 1956. He honorably served in the United States Navy. Fred worked for the TP&W Railroad & for Gingerich Crane Rentals as an operator through Local 649. He was an avid collector & restorer of treasures & for many years a familiar face at auctions around Central Illinois. He loved to take his wife, daughters, & grandchildren to area auctions & engine shows. He was also a devoted Metamora Football fan. The family would like to thank the staffs of Snyder Village, OSF Hospice, and OSF Hospice Home for their care & compassion. The family would also like to thank Dr John Rashid & Dr Michael Whitford for their exceptional care. Funeral services will be held at Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills on Sat, Aug 24, 2013 with Chris Larson officiating. Visitation will be from 12noon to 3:00pm followed by a memorial service at 3pm. Cremation rites will be accorded after services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials can be made to OSF Richard L Owens Hospice Home of Peoria or to TAPS.
