Allen P. Abel, 64, of Metamora, IL, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Washington Senior Living in Washington, IL.
He was born on August 17, 1959, in Peoria, IL, to Hugh and Barbara (Grebner) Abel. He is survived by his brother, Stanley Abel of Metamora, his uncle, James (Karen) Grebner of Romeoville, IL, his aunts, Rosemary (Larry) Christ of Lowpoint, IL, Freida Grebner of Metamora, Gaylene Grebner of Pekin, IL, and Mary Jo Grebner of Germantown Hills, IL, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his uncles, Martin Grebner, Harlan Grebner, Ralph Grebner, and William Grebner, his aunts, Barbara Andes, Elaine Linden, Lucille Grebner, and Helen Best, and his cousins, Curt Andes and Vickie Ferguson.
Allen graduated from Metamora High School, Illinois Central College, and Sangamon State University. He worked for WHOI-TV in Creve Coeur, IL for over 25 years. He enjoyed dining out with family, was an avid reader, and a fan of the Olympic Games.
Allen's family would like to thank the staff of OSF Hospice for their care in his final days.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora with Father David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass time, also at the church. Burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Illinois Cancer Care Foundation, 8940 North Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615 or to Emergency 116 Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 36, Metamora, IL 61548.
