Richard "Dick" J. Purfield

Richard J. “Dick” Purfield, 69, of Metamora, IL passed away suddenly on Friday, August 31, 2018 at his home.  He was born on January 3, 1949 in Peoria, IL, son of the late Robert and Rosemary (Kelch) Purfield.  Dick married Patrice Wyckoff on October 23, 1976.

Surviving are his wife Patrice of Metamora; children Sara Purfield of Metamora, Nicholas (fiancée Sara Seamans) Purfield of West Richland, WA, and Michael (fiancée Kristen Roller) Purfield of Renton, WA; brothers Thomas Purfield and Daniel Purfield; and sister, Barbara Purfield.

He graduated from Richwoods High School in 1967.  Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably from 1967 – 1971 during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Constellation CVA-64.  After his discharge, Dick worked at Caterpillar for 34 years, retiring as an inspector at the Mossville plant.  Dick loved retirement.  He lived by the philosophy, “Take care of your family and your friends, work hard everyday, and live life on your own terms.”

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 7, 2018 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Metamora with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating.  There will be no visitation.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary of Lourdes – Building Maintenance, 424 Lourdes Church Road, Metamora, IL 61548.  Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
