Marilyn L. Merkel, 79, of Washington passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at her residence, surrounded by her family and under the loving care of her husband, children and OSF Hospice.
She was born on August 14, 1938 in Peoria the daughter of Johnnie and Margaret Russell Doerr. She married Delmar B Merkel on April 23, 1960 in Peoria.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter Lisa (Ken) Snow of Washington and one son Steve Merkel of Peoria. Also surviving are two grandchildren Tessa Merkel and Grant Snow. Further surviving is one sister Sharon Ann Hyde of Galesburg, IL. One son Michael preceded her in death.
A graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria she attended Illinois Central College and received her Associates Degree in Business and later attended University of Illinois and received her Bachelor of Business Administration. She worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in data processing and later worked for Illinois Central College as an adjunct professor in the Business School.
Marilyn with her husband Delmar, helped raised money for numerous charitable causes through their love of music. For many years, Marilyn modeled for the Caterpillar Style Show. She was a long time board member of the Tri County Planning Commission.
Services will be 11:00am Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Mason-White Funeral Home 20 Valley Forge Rd in Washington. Visitation will be from 9:30am until her time of service also at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials in her name may be given to Alzheimer’s Association Illinois chapter at www.alz.org or in appreciation for Marilyn’s love of socializing, take a friend to lunch in her honor.
