Jerry Black Obituary

Jerry R. Black, 79, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Columbia, MO, passed away at 9:10 pm on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Snyder Village in Metamora.  He was born on September 13, 1939 in Brownfield, MO to Thomas H. and A. Esther (Watkins) Black.  He married Louise Mackey on July 30, 1969 in Morrisville, MO.

Surviving are his wife Louise of Metamora; daughter Toni (James) Dattilo of Germantown Hills, IL; sons Todd (Laura) Black of New Providence, NJ and Tim (Rebecca) Black of Eugene, OR; seven grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; sister Marilyn (Hershel) Cantrell of Sedalia, MO; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jerry grew up on a farm.  He graduated from Richland High School in Richland, MO, Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, MO and received his Master’s Degree from Drury College in Springfield, MO.  He taught high school in Mokane, MO prior to a 19-year career with Standard Oil/Amoco.  After living in seven different states and fulfilling several positions with the company, he ended his career at MFA Oil in Columbia, MO and Growmart in Illinois.

Cremation Rites have been accorded.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia, MO.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday at the church.  His spiritual body has gone to God and his physical body will be returned as ashes in the Missouri United Methodist Church Memorial Prayer Garden following the memorial service.  A memorial service at Snyder Village in Metamora will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Show-Me-Central Habitat for Humanity, 1906 Monroe Street, Columbia, MO 65201 (or to your local HFH chapter) or Snyder Village Resident-in-Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.  Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
