David P. Slavens, 83, of Morton, IL passed away at 10:20pm, Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Washington Christian Village, Washington, IL.
He was born on July 21, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois.to Thomas and Doretha Slavens. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Peggy Slavens; daughter, Cherie (Chuck) McWherter of Lockport, IL: sons, David Michael Slavens of Sycamore, IL, Patrick (Catlyn) Slavens of Pekin, IL, step-son Daniel Kasabian of Ashland, VA and step-daughter Sarah (James) Larson of Alma, MI. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren: Amanda, Greg, Shannon, Beth, Brooke, Joshua, Brady, Thomas, Jacklyn, Ashlyn, Gabriel, and Dominick and 1 great-grandchild, Ada.
Dave was a graduate of Woodruff High School and attended Bradley University. He served in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He was Traffic Manager at Hiram Walker for over 20 years until they relocated to Arkansas in 1981. He then worked for American General Insurance until he retired in 2001. Dave was an avid golfer and a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also a member of Grace Presbyterian for 28 years where he sang with the choir. His joy in life was sharing his faith with everyone he encountered.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am.
