Charles E. Pittman, 99, of Washington most recently of Apostolic Christian Rest-Mor in Morton, IL, passed away at 1:41pm Friday, July 20, 2018, in the emergency room of OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL
He was born on November 23, 1918 in Corinth, MS the son of Charlie W. and Hattie Sanders Pittman. He married Marie Moore on June 8, 1940 in Piggott, AR. She passed away on January 30, 2011. Also preceding him in death were one infant son Charles Edward, one brother Grady Pittman, two sisters Mary Florence Johnson and Martha McMillin.
Surviving are one daughter, Sherry (Gary) Minter of East Peoria; one son, Chuck (Deborah) Pittman of Morton; three grandchildren, Rachel (Richard) Kemper, Sarah (Scotty) Edmondson and Rebekah Minter. He is also survived by one great granddaughter Harper Edmondson and one brother James (Violet) Pittman of McCleary, WA.
Charles, starting at a young age, worked on the family farm in Corinth, MS. The family moved to Kennett, MO in 1924. While in Kennett, he was employed at the local Dodge Dealership and later was a distribution driver for Pepsi. He then owned and operated a motorcycle shop for several years before moving to Washington in 1948, at which time he began working for Caterpillar Tractor Company, retiring in 2015 after 67 ½ years.
Charles was a charter member of Beverly Manor Missionary Baptist Church in Washington, where he faithfully served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of National Rifle Association and a member of UAW Local #974.
He thoroughly enjoyed his work as well as hunting, knife collecting, his yard and orchard, and repairing anything that was broken for anyone who asked.
Visitation will be at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington Wednesday, July 25, 2018, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to his 10:00am service Thursday, July 26, 2018 also at the funeral home. Pastor Jason Shults will officiate. Burial will follow his funeral service at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to Beverly Manor Missionary Baptist Church, 209 Vohland St, Washington, IL 61571.
