Antoinette “Toni” Cottrell, 76, of Washington passed away at 3:50pm, Monday, September 10, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 3, 1942 in Corder, MO the daughter of Raymond and Alberta Winfrey Heaper.
Toni married Carroll Highbarger on May 30, 1964 and later married William R. “Bill” Cottrell on September 9, 2000 in Columbia, MO.
Surviving are her husband of Washington, one daughter Lynne (Jeff) Warren of St. Charles, MO, one daughter in law Jennifer Highbarger of Columbia, MO; three grandchildren Jacy Highbarger, Truman Highbarger and Derrick Warren. Also surviving are four step children John (Gloria) Cottrell, Brent (Darla) Cottrell, Brian (Wendy) Cottrell and Janel (Jason) Saunders, 16 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Further surviving are two brothers Raymond “Gene” Heaper of Brunswick, MO and Rodney (Sherrie) Heaper of Sweet Springs MO, along with three nieces Gay Jean (Jack) Garvin, Hollie (Michael) Marcille and Hope (Zac) Hayes. Toni and Bill also semi-adopted Adam & Tiffany Rupp and their children Anna, Naomi, Miriam, Julia, Abigail, Jesse, Simon and Titus who called them grandma and grandpa.
Her parents, one son Truman Highbarger, sister in law Connie Heaper and one nephew Brandon Heaper preceded her in death.
She was a registered Oncology Nurse for 26 years at Ellis Fishel Cancer Center in Columbia, MO. After moving to Washington she worked for TCRC in Tremont and then worked at OSF Glen Park Practice in Peoria for 8 years. Toni was a member of Bethany Community Church in Washington and the Central Illinois Hosta Society. Her enjoyments in life included a collector of Santa’s, sewing quilts and her flower gardens watching the humming birds among many others.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be Monday, September 17, 2018 from 10:00AM until 11:45AM at Bethany Community Church, 27577 Dutch Ln, Washington, IL. A Memorial Service will then follow at 12 Noon also at the church. Pastor Daniel Bennett will officiate. A private inurnment of her remains will be at a later date at St. John Cemetery in Emma, MO.
